"Ellen and ben" is such a genius closer- if I'm in a certain mood the "when I was 10..." digression makes me tear up just a teensy bit

It’s kinda corny, a bit, but has that nice bridge that sort of diverts its narrative energy in an interesting way. Think it less corny than “the ice of Boston” (which I like) and “back and forth” (which I like less) tho

yeah I agree Ellen and Ben is less corny, also Back and forth and 8 and a half minutes are unfortunately the weakest songs on emergency and I which sorta sucks seeming as they finish it off but they're still not bad
Revisiting this band at the moment is really nice now that the lyrics resonate more. There are some lyrical gems here ("That anger's all right..and bitterness no.
Cold uncontrollably sad, and unable to let it go") that I really appreciate for being sort of straightforward and having no frills

it totally hooks me with "I get up at 5am, I so don't need those dreams / That I used to have", that part always convinces me that the song is at least partly genius, but yeah changing the key and sorta meandering along was an act of fumbling the bag
