I just like Jeff's version more than Leonard's, I like the instrumentation, the vocals and the emotion better. I don't see how it is impossible to compare them, it's the same song.
They interest me more, because I know which parts of the album to check out. If I see a non track by track, then I don't usually read the whole thing unless I am really interested in the album, or I have heard it and I want to see the reviewer's opinion. Maybe that's just me, but I don't think it is.

One of the all time great albums. Such a shame that he couldnt still be with us.

I'd give atleast half the songs on this cd a 5/5... and the whole album is definatly a 5/5..
First time I heard it I thought "meh" and only really liked last goodbye, and grace... But after listening through the whole album several times, I slowly fell in love with every single song on it.

I'll find the track somewhere and listen to it, then add it in.

I'll do it when I get home tonight :thumb:
Bumping this because this issue of Grace is now obsolete - it has been taken of the market and replaced with a new version. It's basically exactly the same, but with Forget Her included as Track 11.
That kind of pisses me off... I mean, Jeff didn't want it on there, right? It doesn't belong on Grace.
It's a good song, but it belongs on the bonus disc.

Hands down, my favorite album of all time. Love the voice, the musicianship and the songwriting.
he was a beautiful man who wrote beautiful music. RIP :upset:

One of my all-time favorite albums, and an essential classic. Great review.

Absolutely beautiful album.
Hallelujah, Last Goodbye, Lover you should have come over, Lilac Wine... what can you say? Brilliant.
Definately 5/5 ...
Such a unique and emotive voice. Such interesting arrangements. Such sad, yet beautifully powerful songs. Such a talent - so real.

He did have a good voice and he was quite a fine guitarist, but I just can't get into this album. Granted it does have some good songs on it such as Lover, You Should've Come Over and Hallelujah, but most are far too long for their own good and just get boring. I also find his voice get exceedingly annoying on some of the songs, especially So Real which I would say contains one of the most annoying choruses in history. I'm not slagging the album or anything, I just don't like it.

When I first put this cd into my player, I found it a really hard listen. It is, really. Jeff Buckley puts SO much emotion into his music, that you have to show your inhuman side towards the music. That's the only way you can appreciate it, really. It has more emotion than one can bear. It's a hard journey.
After two months or something, when I got used to it; well, it never really got out of my cd player. Jeff Buckley has the best "use" of voice... ever. And when he comes up with his weird chord progressions and brilliant improvisations [live].. well, enjoy "the Jeff Buckley style".
Definitely 5/5. My favourite Jeff Buckley release after "Live at Sin-é."

The last track on mine is called 'Forget Her', which means mine has 11 tracks... hmm...

Ah, just read the thing above... sorry about that ;)
Awesome album, just got it. Although you probably have to listen through it a few times before you really love it.

Album Rating: 4.5
Good review, but I disagree with some of the ratings. So Real is one of the "worst" (there isn't a bad song on the album) in my opinion. Lover, you should've come over deserves a 5 more than any other song on the album. Track 1-3 are also amazing, especially Grace, which I wouldn't hesitate to rate 5 either. This Message Edited On 07.26.05

I would say that this review is great and nearly perfect except for the rating on Last Goodbye which should be a 5 really.
Anyway this is a great review.

This album is so good I could puke...
Definitely up there with my all time favourites. Lover, you should've come over is unmatched by all but very few songs in sheer beauty... gives me the shivers...

Great album, Hallelujah is one of the greatest songs of all time (both the original and Buckley's cover.) Jeff Buckley's version was used in a beautiful montage in The West Wing.

Same as MBV.
The good is great, but it doesn't out weigh the bad.

What do you think is bad?
Sounds like what I think of Surfer Rosa.
