chad kreuger being the singer on the first song ruins this so hard for me
Must have missed that.

How do they need help in the song writing department? just because you may not agree with that they are singing about, doesn't mean it's bad... They sing about what they believe in. They have pure faith influence their music, and it's fantastic. They aren't afraid to show the world they are Christian, and it makes Christians feel proud to be a Christian.

Fantastic album, the melodic parts are different but they use them well. Mattie's vocals are once again the highlight of this album. Instrumentation is top notch too. I don't see them as generic, i reckon they are the leader in this genre.

They need help in the song writing department because they play a breakdown every 45 seconds and this is basically the same album as Portraits and breaker. Has nothing to do with lyrical content even though I don't like that either.

I've generally liked all their stuff but so far this one is a little disappointing. I agree about the songwriting. Each song basically ends with their same slow tempo breakdowns. They just haven't really brought anything new to the table on this one

Lol, you honestly think we mean their lyrics when we say songwriting? I don't care about their lyrics. Their songwriting is terrible. There's little to no variation between songs, they lack a certain degree of catchiness, they rely way too heavily on breakdowns and gimmicky bass drops. Those bass drops aren't just there for flair, they are there to try and distract from the fact that they can't write varied songs.
In case you haven't noticed, we sputnikers don't particularly pay much attention to lyrics as a serious method of judging a band's talent. It can certainly help, but most of us care far more about the actual music and, lo and behold, songwriting ability.

I wish they would incorporate gang vocals like they did on Ekklessia and Portraits. This and Breaker are good albums. but lack replay value of past releases. good review.
