Listened to Elegies on YouTube and it was pretty damn good. Will probably check this out later.

this sounds fucking awful

Title track alone has a few lolbad breakdowns, so I don't see how the rest could be any better.

This album is good, but has poor replay value. Each song uses very similar symphonic elements (high-
pitched octaves played on the piano), and sometimes it's hard to differentiate between songs.
The band really overuses simply breakdowns, and it really interrupts the flow of the songs. However,
lyrically the album is great, and the vocalist is one of the better in the genre.

What is it about lyrically?

Devastator, it's kind standard fare. A lot of talk of betrayal, lost love, scorned lovers, violence, apathy. There is some nifty imagery, but also some "I AM YOUR FUCKING END" stuff. I like both.

I disagree with the replay value, I think this offers a lot in terms of listening experience, especially due to the atmosphere of the record. Yes, the keys are similar/samey throughout but that tone is just haunting. I agree that if they dropped the breakdowns and went down the technicality route, they could be something more than what they are right now.
|
| |
^that explanation makes the album sound like it should be a 3, since the atmosphere and a haunting tone doesn't exactly validate the record being 'excellent'.

Wookie–I noticed that about 2 minutes after I posted it but I can't edit a damn thang :/
Dropdead–I think the replay value is great, truth be told, it's just tough to sit down and barrel through the whole album without it losing it's charm.

Eclecticist-
I believe it's excellent because the album has been executed well. Its got decent vocals, instrumentation may fumble here and there but they've got it fine-tuned by deathcore standards. They just need to expand their musical pallets a bit. As I mentioned, the atmosphere/keys. Also it's pretty good lyrically for a younger band. Near enough every song packs a punch to.
KillWithASmile- yeah, I find that with most deathcore/death metal. I like jamming stuff like this on my sound system. An album I find particularly hard to listen to in one listen is America's Most Haunted by King Conquer, it's pretty good, just looooong.

That's very true, as much as I love that album by King Conquer, I can't sit through it. Some deathcore albums can make it work though–and don't get me wrong, Neverbloom comes close.

very nice review, but a bit generous for the faults you mention.
I feel like the songs blend in waaaaay too much, and how many breakdowns does an album need? A few solos or even more piano would of been better to me. But for a debut LP, extremely solid.

Heard the song Neverbloom and i was kinda bad ass but it feels like it drags on a bit. Nothing very exciting ever happened anywhere in it. It was decent atleast so I guess I will listen to it some more.
