Fantastic review. Personally, I really enjoyed this despite feeling at times that I probably shouldn't be. Pressure holds it down and is catchy as fuck garage. Don't know why he had to have such generic vocals on some of the other female leads. Dirty Sexy's is so bad. I think the wobbly basslines have some fun interplay there, but they can't save that abomination.
Still, I love how big his wobbles always are, and think Opium is a great high-energy track that's a cool change of pace from most of the high-energy stuff in the genre.
Some of the Dub-influenced stuff is pretty good, but never reaches his old stuff like "Sound Guy Is My Target", which is interesting because I always wondered if the drop in quality this guy's had was due to going in a bad direction or from having a few fluke releases that were amazing.
But the fact is I expected this to have a few short-comings, and I can enjoy (almost) everything on here from start to finish, with a few tracks that I think are really awesome.

This is streaming here:

No idea how legit that stream is (doesn't look very), but hey I'm just the messenger.

I doubt he cares. This was his response when his label accidentally leaked the album by streaming it without his consent:

Think about it though, he hands in the album and then the label turns around and tells an online zine that they can stream it without first checking with the artist. That's pretty fucked up, especially seeing as how with this album Rusko had fulfilled his contractual obligations with the label

That's a pretty reasonable response if you ask me
|

Yeah that's indeed totally understandable. I'd be pretty fucking mad, myself.
On the other hand, you'd think "underground" artists nowadays wouldn't be so upset with the album appearing everywhere on the web. Just think of it as good promo.

I wouldn't say Rusko was "underground".
Looking his tweets and the fact is fairly cheap for an LP (£7.99), I'm not sure how fussed he is about the money involved in this album. I think it's just more the principle.

Great review Dev, sums up my feelings for the most part. Really the only song I can see myself going back and listening to is Somebody to Love

I heard some speculation that he set up the scenario himself to get some buzz going about the album. I think it was diplo who started the rumor though who runs the label so probably BS. I didn't really understand what the accusation was exactly.

i have to be fair - the M357 tracks is pretty fantastic

This is pretty decent. Pressure rules.
And father jack, I'd argue Rusko was underground in 2007. Anyway.
Great review as always Dev. 'Dubplate style' haha.

How representative of this album is 'pressure' because that was alright. (((haven't read the review))))

Not very. A decent amount of it has that light-hearted catchy vibe to it but none of the other tracks are in that dance-y garage style. You might check out Somebody To Love and Thunder though, I posted a link to where they're streaming above on this page.
