Hawks, i couldn't get my head around Written in the Waters...it was too, for want of a better word, wacky for me. Is this going to be too odd for my palate of a bit progressive, but not mad bonkers crazy, tastes?

Actually to clarify that...i don't even mind mad bonkers crazy metal (Norway's Shining for example) but if the cleans are a bit pantomime it'd be good to get a heads up.

It's like black metal prog with a 70s twist

Probably. This is a lot weirder than Written in Waters is.

This would be a million times better if they focused on writing better songs as a whole in harmony with the versatile influences instead of trying to be as diverse as possible at the expense of good songwriting.

I think the whole being diverse thing really works out well for them.

Sure, they definitely ace the whole "hey look, we're different"-trend but it's not all about being different.

Eh I see where you're coming from. This definitely seems like a love it or hate it type of album.

I would worship it if its overall song progression didn't sound so forced because its formula is
definitely ohshit-worthy on paper.

Listened to this a couple of times, this didn't sound like the awesome breakthrough, i must listen to it more though to have an "objective" opinion.

This is my AOTY so far. I'm pretty sure it won't stay that way, but I think this will end up at least top 10 for me once the year is finished.

I just really love the creepy vibe this has. I wouldn't call it a scary album per se, but it's pretty disturbing at times.

@ Wreath

As soon as you get into it, you realize that every part has its place in its composition and everything is coordinated in a unique way. Give it a second chance and you may change your mind.
