Weird, I find Anthony's lyrics at their best and most mature (in his terms) on By The Way and Stadium Arcadium (with exceptions of course) and also on Californication on some songs. On those he strayed away from sex only, but here they are plain stupid at times. Good review otherwise!

Depends who you ask I guess. Sonically all the songs have a common theme, but there's 4 or 5 different types of song on this album. It's not their most diverse album ever but it's still more diverse than most stuff out there.

It's a very bass-driven album, which is a plus since Flea is amazing. While no one is jumping up and down about Klinghoffer, he has a very understated/low-key style with a lot of textural stuff which compliments the whole bass-driven thing quite well. Sometimes it's what you DON'T do that is just as important, i.e. knowing your place, especially when you're in a band with fucking Flea. He's no Frusciante of course, but he compliments Flea pretty well.
