A Gift from a flower to a Garden and The Hurdy Gurdy man are fantastic albums. I was dragged to Minions and hearing Mellow Yellow during the end credits was surprising.

His 1966-68 work is brilliant. This is my favorite of his and one of my favorite albums to jam during summer.

That's a bit surprising but ff I remember correctly, you're not so much into folk though, right?

Is not the use of folk instruments, atmosphere, etc that I don't like, it is that most of the time, folk songs sound the same for me

Oh right. I always said that this one is more like folk/psych, whereas Dylan's Highway 61 for example is more on the electric side and Van Morrison's Moondance has a few jazz elements so you will find differences on those albums. On another thought, you might dig Carole King - Tapestry which has a few quality pop elements if you haven't checked it already.

There are bands that can be labelled as folk that I really enjoy. America and its many tempo changes with the acoustic guitars (there's nothing I love more than fast acoustic guitars haha), or Tull that manages to create a pretty unique atmosphere using stuff like flutes, etc but when there isn't something that unique in a folk artist's sound it is difficult for me to like it (I recognize the artists I named aren 't 100% folk though)

The only reason I'd love a folk artist with an "standard" folk sound, would be if the lyrics were awesome, but hey, we all know Donovan isn 't Nick Drake haha

Nick Drake is definitely up there even though I'm not his biggest fan on here. But Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen are up there as well. Donovan is not as good agreed but for the music he makes his lyrics are pretty fitting. They're not as introspective but they do evoke psych images rather successfully haha.
