this is actually pretty good, reinventing the wheel no but great nonetheless.

Gonna have to check this out, always had a soft spot for this band. In the shadow of a thousand suns was one of my gateway albums. Also your review has made me really curious about what this sounds like dude.

look this album is okay and all, but i just feel that (like all their albums) they're just shooting blindly into the bm scene and hoping to strike a chord with a fanbase

well i don't have any authority in the matter or experience but a lot of the violins to me gave it an almost chinese-like kind of feel

i don't know, it's just how i felt when listening to it :]

Well, it's just a rather silly, outdated term over here (like saying something sounds Western/European), but I get what you mean, especially since it's primarily used to refer to Chinese in the UK, from what I gather.
No more objections, carry on. :]

I decided not to check this out, the one song I heard was not interesting. AT ALL.

This album actually surprised me as well. Maybe they are trend hopping, I didn't know too much about these guys before because I heard a couple tracks and it drove me away, but this is a good sound for them. If they stay on this path, but tweak it into their own, they could be good...but we shall see like you said! Kudos!

I saw these guys a month ago. I had gone to the show for 2 reasons. One, Turbid North was playing also....they kick ass by the way... and two because I thought they may play some shit off of In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns. Well, they didn't. I sat through 3 songs of long drawn out boring shit. This might be something to sit down and listen to while you're doing something else, but to see it live was mind numbing. I have the first 3 Abigail Williams cds and the last one I didn't enjoy. So I really don't think I'll be picking this one up.

Just saying, the whole post-rock tinged black metal is really hard to fuck up, that's why there are so many bands doing it now, and it sounds pretty decent. But like with regular post-rock, once there are a plethora of pretty good bands of the same genre, they all blend together and become mediocre. That's what is happening with this new wave of black metal thingy. At least I think so.

that's the case with like, literally any genre

and there's nothing really that makes this any harder to 'fuck up' than any other black metal subgenre

@someguest: thank you!! :]
