Thanks paxman. Actually, the more I think of it, "layman's term" is just a term in itself... At the end of the day, layman & definition are simply 2 words, so I think it makes enough sense to go with.
Good to hear andcas. Do they polish up their live show a little to go with their newer sound OR is it still very much fun, old-school pop-punk when they hit the stage?

Thought it might have been. Most bands who change their sound like this can't (at least initially) sustain it on stage. That's not necessarily a bad thing anyway.

As long as they didn't play any of the slow ones. I know they have been playing 'Gravity' & 'Earthquake' live for a while anyway. I presume 'Take Control' or 'Float Through Me' would have been the other one, as they are the 4 clear standouts here.

holy crap, as I clicked the link to this I was thinking "this is gonna be a 3/5 review by DaveyBoy"

i need to write a pop punk album before i die.

It wouldn't be very hard, would it?

Fishy, you should charge people for your crystal ball work.
Failing writing a pop-punk album, you could just do a cover set of the best from over the years.

I'll stick with 30 Seconds To Mars for my overproduced epic music. This is pretty lame.

"why did you just compare 30 Seconds To Mars to this band?"
Coz I mentioned them in the review. I definitely got a spacey vibe on half the songs here (especially the poorer slower ones). Hell, even 'Gravity', 'Earthquake', Float Through Me & 'All of the Weight' sort of go there lyrically. They definitely had a theme in mind with this album.

"the theme being mellow meets climatic pop punk and there's nothing wrong with that."
In theory, that is correct. I just think they used the 2 producers (& separate recording sessions) unwisely. It almost feels like 2 separate EPs stuck together.

Yeah, AP went fairly nuts over it... Then again, that's not surprising.

Great review, I've been trying to decide whether to bother with this album or not. I'll give it a listen but I'm not expecting it to live up to their previous stuff.

Ghost, it's different to their previous stuff, so you'll need to get over that fact first.
Vyndax, I'm not gonna knock their staff & their reviews. I think they approach them from a certain way that's different to most other sites, and as long as readers realise that, then there really isn't an issue. Having said that, I would think that they have a lot of young, gullible readers. But really, all reviews should be taken with a grain of salt to some extent... They're only opinions, blah, blah, blah.

Yeah, you're right. It was quite a bit foolish and short-sighted to think that. I just might be
growing out of it and changed my taste in music, but that's what should be happening anyways.
Oh, I don't think their demographic is too different than ours 15-21 (or 24) year-olds, ect.
But enough of that already...

You may be right, although I would have thought they'd have a slightly younger demographic.

Agreed... Just talking about in general between the 2 sites though... Not meant to be a put-down or a "we're better than them" statement.

Not digging this as much as their previous stuff on first listen. Stupid bands always maturing and becoming better.

"Stupid bands always maturing and becoming better."
Don't you just hate that? Why can't bands find the fountain of youth?
