Oops, I thought I had put 25. Thanks for spotting that.

Great review; that said, help me out Matt - what genre, exactly, is this bloke part of? From the description it kinda sounds like James Blake but with a Drake vibe and a Jay-Z filter (I may be getting this completely fricking wrong here lol).

He is left field Hip-hop funk psychedelic electronica soul lo fi... and a whole lot else. Could be wrong myself. He's hard to classify really.

Irving: it's almost impossible to pigeon-hole Gonjasufi, he has a tendency to mix several different genres. I would say predominantly psychedelic hip-hop, but take a listen for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCeCIXqj64Y
That's off of his best album, A Sufi and a Killer. Here's a song from this mini-album to help showcase the stark contrast and give you a general idea of what to expect from about 80% of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rojcjBW1jk0 In summation: MU.ZZ.LE is far more rooted in synthesizers and noise, while A Sufi and a Killer frequently uses very easily distinguishable string instruments.

You'd probably like it.
Downer: I thought he helped on more than just one, but I'll properly research it in a bit.

Thanks, clercqie. I would suggest listening to A Sufi and a Killer before this if I were you. This isn't as good an entry point, but you'll still probably enjoy it if you hear it first.

potato: I don't know if I'd agree about it being 'out of context' =/

I can agree with that post wholeheartedly. This immediately throws you into a song that isn't very accessible, and it doesn't ever present itself as very welcoming. A lot of the songs on this would be terrible introduction points if one were trying to get someone into Gonjasufi, but it's also a much different sound than A Sufi and a Killer, so it depends on what the person is looking for. I think the two songs I linked to on page two showcase the dichotomy between the energy and production of A Sufi... and the more restrained, laid-back feel of MU.ZZ.LE.
Side note: I think the last track could have been REALLY good had it played more on its dark atmosphere and been stretched out for longer than 2 minutes. It's legitimately disappointing.

i don't know what to think about this album
but i've been sorta on the fence about this guy for a sufi and a killer too despite my rating it high
