isn't most hip-hop about looking at life and taking it easy?

I haven't heard this, but I think the reviewer's argument is coherent and makes sense even if it's not completely airtight. Then again, the brevity is intended and definitely a nice touch.
Are people just misconstruing the review because they disagree with the score?

Im just giving Chambered shit because he likes really weird, really shitty music alot to try to impress staff members. At heart he's a radio guy, which makes his entire argument invalid.
love you Chambered.

I don't think "it pretends to be this, but is really this" is a justifiable enough reason. What comes out is good, just not the same kind of good you were personally expecting. I think maybe it's too subjective of a review that reflects how your personal expectations were not met, rather than coming in unbiased.
Review is well written, but I must neg for subjectivity

The review makes little sense. You just said it was good and listed a bunch of strengths the album has. The most negative thing you wrote is "How I got Over worked because there was a certain power behind it, a slight ruggedness that worried less about quality and more about honesty." You basically spent the majority of the review explaining that because you immediately enjoyed it and you didn't have to force yourself to, it's not a good album.
I get the way you feel about the album, but it's honestly pretty silly and you really didn't justify it well.

yeah lets be honest its a pretty dumb review. Chambered is good most of the time so he gets a pass.

The chorus of that song seriously sucks, but everything else is ace.
Also, Sam: you make me sad =[

Its not their best but its definitely better than The Tipping Point, Rising Down, How I Got Over, and Do You Want More imo. Probably Phrenology too.
i think all those are better by a long shot except tipping point and how i got over, which are only slightly better.
also, i like metallica too :[

I think we can all agree (if were smart), that Things Fall Apart, Illadelph Halflife, and Game Theory are the three best Roots albums.

i agree that the more music challenges you the stronger of an attachment you will develop, but i still don't think that is justification for giving this album a low (or high, or any kind) of rating
|
| |
so basically what i gather from this review is that you evaluate music based on how "challenging" it is, and nothing more.
so why dont you have death grips at a 5 i mean it is awesome after all
