by the time they had released the garbage that was 34.788%... Complete, there were many people that started to believe that the band were finished;
NEG ;-)
excellently written review as always, though.

Oh man, those leads on Base Level Erotica are freaking orgasmic.

There are some decent parts on 34.788%... Complete, but overall it's crap. The drummer was boring as fuck, the sound was too thin and the songs were subpar (especially Heroin Chic... or whatever that song was called).

what? the "nanana na na na, na na na yeah yeah yeah"? What's not to love about it? :D
Yeah, I usually skip that one, in the beggining it was like one of those cool bad jokes, that starts
to annoy after the 3rd listening.

Oh man, I need to hear this right away. "New" My Dying Bride is some of my favourite metal.

I have to disagree. I think that they were actively trying to create melodies that could still remain dissonant and dirty. So the sounds they used were just the slightest bit atonal.
that's not how they came across to me, they just came across as bad. i don't think these guys have ever been able to pull off a decent atonal feel.
Again, I think it was a conscious choice. I think they were shooting for that low budget old sound that they started with. I don't think they wanted to have any part of the song be clean or easily accessible. It's an EP -- that's where a lot of bands try different things that might not appeal to the broad fan base.
i can't say i've heard the very early mdb but i'm very sure it didn't sound this digital and soulless, and that's where my issues with the tone and production lie.
but eh, i'm noctus and i'm really unpredictable so i would encourage all you guys to at least try it. :]

I found this fairly boring but I will give it another shot. Nice review buddy!

Nice review Trey, I don't think I'm too interested in this (hell, I haven't even checked out this band' back catalogue and it's rather critically acclaimed), especially since I've got other stuff from 2011 to re-listen to, so I could compile at least a semi-competent year end list.
That Vallenfyre album is badass though, I love that one.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the Vallenfyre album, but it's not bad. I can see how people might have issues with this song because it's not instant and there aren't a lot of hooky moments, but it's still good.
Metalstyles, check that stream I linked to on your post metal list.

I shall do so probably later tonight, when I'm not doing anything else, so I could really concentrate on the music and the atmosphere.

I was gonna skip this but I had no idea it was a return to Turn Loose the Swans-era material

It's actually more of a return to the As The Flower Withers era.

Yeah, it's surprisingly raw for a 20 year old band. Not bad.
