i was thinking uncanny in the sense the more monstrous creatures and events recall normal, quotidian life but are just "off" enough to be creepy

This is a fucking awful conglomeration of shit. I can always count on internet music critics to unconditionally love anything Thom Yorke or Animal Collective touch. This is almost as awful as the Colts.

i wouldnt say its awful. its just so different to anything else.
i do agree that this is their weakest work, but tantrum barb and what happened are pretty ridiculous.

This oozes pretentiousness. Do people even listen to Animal Collective anymore, or just all AotY at the first listen? This record is trash.

i'm now imagining a dog whinnying like a horse and then complaining about positive reviews for animal collective and thom yorke projects and thats a pretty good mental image.

I'm all for praise when it's deserved. Both bands have written some outstanding material. Both bands have written their share of bad songs, and those songs ride the coattails of previous achievements in an overwhelming majority of music critics. This record pales in comparison to Merriweather and Spirit alike. My opinion, for however little it's worth.

I'm not whining or trying to prove anything. I'm offering my opinion that this record was a four star
by MANY critics, not specifically this one, before the first listen.

This sounds terrible.

I don't see Skoj as whining, just being verbose. And yes I get where you're coming from now Downer... I guess I just don't get any sort of familiar feeling from this.

definitely wasn't a 4 the first listen. it took seeing the visuals for the thing to really hit home. before that there were a few good tracks a shit ton of noise. which there still are, but at least the noise works well with its companion visual pieces

i remember being stoned out of my mind going to the premiere of this visual album in nyc and during the crazy opening fire scene i remember wondering whether or not i dropped any lsd or ate any boomers beforehand. mr fingers, screens, and working/tantrum barb are some of the best tunes AC has ever written. though some of the visuals were nice, there were moments where they were subpar when used with the music. definitely gotta agree with the windows media player visual comment, and that's certainly not a good thing about the visuals.

I want to see it for the visuals... but the philosophy behind it (Enter the Void) are pretty lol
