Are you serious? Do I REALLY need to listen to this? It's fair to say I have an appreciation of the pop genre, but this was so far off my radar.

In interviews I've read, she's already moving on to talk about a new album, almost as this has nothing to offer!

I guess I'll listen and report back...

Wait, there's such a thing as a Girl's Aloud forum and people still use it?

Anyway, nice review, but I just don't see myself liking this. But oh well, each to their own.

Valerius's points are valid, gotta say. I thought he was pretty much spot on for everything he said

Album Rating: 3.5

While I agree that Butler's ratings can often appear esoteric and random at best and I find myself repeatedly shocked/dismayed at some of the seemingly very low ratings he's given out for albums that are otherwise considered by the majority of critics and fans alike as "classics" like certain Beatles or Metallica albums, there's no need to get so upset about someone else's interpretation of music. Just worry about your own.

I'm not much for pop usually but Sputnik has surprised me before and got me to check out stuff like Janelle Monae's last album, so I'll give this a shot.

"I distinctly remember an article introducing the band as 'the four sexiest women in British music (and the ginger one)'. How can that not hurt you? For years Roberts was treated as a spare wheel, as if she was only part of the band because they needed a fifth person and it didn't matter who it was. After years of suffering through being ignored, attacked, belittled, and patronized, she must have had a lot of pent-up emotions to let out on this album."

what?

Beat of My Drum really might be the best pop song of the year.

Once upon a time I pressed rewind
Two left feet, I had no beat
Baby in the corner learning quick
Keep up, keep up, keep up
Graduation take a bow
See how strong you've made me now
Two steppin' all over me, then cha cha cha cha
I'm in!

Oohh don't it make your heart go wow
Oohh how I've turned this whole thing round

L..O.....V..E
Dance to the beat of my drum
Dance to the beat of my drum

If this song is the best pop song of 2011, music is in a worst state of affairs than I ever considered. This woman can't dance, she can't write lyrics, she can barely sing, her beats are pretty simple, and her songs don't have many hooks. And any woman that insists on being half naked in her videos tells me she lacks integrity and talent.

Beat of My Drum is on the same level as Rebecca Black's Friday to me - a cheesy song without much talent, but at least Rebecca Black is a kid being herself, has potential as a singer, and has some decency.

Sorry, man, this is everything that is wrong with pop to me. Skilled musicians replaced by drum machines, meaningless lyrics, entertainers who can't dance, relying on videos and sex appeal to sell an album. Someone resurrect Michael Jackson to save pop if this is the best we can do. If this album is a 4, Lady Gaga's The Fame is an 8.

Hating on Rebecca Black seems to be the cool thing to do. Too bad I'm not cool. I think for myself. Rebecca is a kid that could do something one day. At least she's taking singing and dance lessons, something this chick seems to have skipped.

And The Fame is 2.5 to you, but this is 3.5? How?

Thank you sputnik for introducing me to another album I absolutely love. and to guy causing all the trouble and trying to throw Lady Gaga into the mix at every turn, this album pretty much shot "Born This Way" in the face. this coming from a Gaga fan mind you. I agree with the reviewer. best pop record of 2011.

You've only proved my point if this is the best pop album of 2011. This is the pop superstar of 2011? Then why did she fall of the iTunes charts like a bag of rocks? Why did her singles flop like a pancake? Why was she dropped from her record label?

This shit sucks - that's why. But, yeah, thanks, Sputnik. You got me in the mood to dig up all my old 80's pop/soul/dance. You know...the 80s? When music was exploding with creativity, albums were being mastered properly, and stuff had heart in it and made you feel good about life?

I won't say "the good ol' days are better". I will say that the 80s was perhaps the most diverse and creatively expanding period in the history of music, and for the last 10 years music seems to be stagnating. I can discover "new" music for me from 30 years ago that I've never heard and be amazed at its originality, sound quality, and overall vibe.

I'm glad you like it, though. Seriously. Whatever floats your boat. Just be happy with me hating it.
