Sad Fact:: Lydia screwed their Career when they released Illuminate.
I say this because Illuminate was so magical and so pure, and even more original and unique; Paint it Golden cannot compare. Lydia broke the mold, and set the bar very high with Illuminate, it would take perfection for any band to make an album comparable; it would take more than perfection for Lydia to match it. Not suggesting Lydia is incapable of making another incredibe album, don't get me wrong, I'm sure they can. But Paint it Golden was less than perfect, less than medeocre. Too mainstream, too pop inspired, too half-assed. Had it proceeded Illuminate, I may have appreciated it more than I do, but I cannot accept Paint it Golden after first hearing Illuminate.

I agree with you to an extent. Illuminate is my favorite album of all time and I find myself comparing Paint it Goldend to it whenever I listen to it. That said, I still enjoy this album.
