Turns out, this is my favourite album of 2011.

This might be, but that Jezabels album is pretty fucking good... seriously.

This is a really well written and informative review, so much so that I am considering giving this bad boy a try. I hesitate, however, given how much progressive metal sounds more like 70s-era hard rock by the day. I'll do some investigation before investing funds.

This sounds like a native american 'singing' on top of technical prog metal.

So I checked out "Stained Glass Sky" on their MySpace page, and the music is really heavy progressive metal as I like it, to include some wicked lead/soloing guitar work; however, I'm not sure about the vocals. I sense the dude's voice is an acquired taste. I imagine this is what non-Rush fans complain about when they hear Getty Lee.

Yeah, most people say that about Arch. There are moments where he sings in a more restrained manner so if you don't outright hate his voice, it will likely grow on you. The complex, busy melodies are wonderful, but I guess they don't help to make things any more accessible.
I think he really shines on the ballad, "Incense and Myrrh." The majority of it is just acoustic guitar and vocals. The simpler melody and a lack of heavy, technical instrumentation behind it allows you to really appreciate the beauty of his voice.

^ Thanks. I needed some hope, a lifeline, and you just might have given me the ticket. Again, the music is pretty serious.

I'm not a huge fan of Arch myself, but this is a rather harsh criticism.
Are you implying that he sounds like a country singer?
Arch's vocals are good, to say the least, i like them, they possess a twist long forgotten in the prog metal domain.

The thing is... Arch is part Native American.

It wasn't a criticism perse. The vocals, as well as most of its melodies, are unusual which makes it interesting and challenging to listen to.

Personally I think Arch's voice has held up over the years better than Ray's has. I hope Matheos works more with Arch.

Oh wait this is prog metal? I'm kind of a sucker for this genre so I will probably see this extremely favorably.

I think I might have just made a mistake picking up this album after all. Willie now tells me these vocals are great relative to Joey Eppard's. I fear they will never grow on me. Is there hope?

Eppard sounds like any number of hard rock vocalists. Arch's voice is much more unique and distinctive which causes people to either love it or hate it.

I think my favorite track is Midnight Serenade.

the riffs on this album maaaaaan, vocalist is good an all but ray probably woulda killed it more, instrumentally this album shits on the new redemption, First prog album I listened to where I didn't go "oh well this is the pointless wank part".

4:10 of stained reminds me of master of puppets(song)
But yea, the first 3 tracks on this album is gold, after that it is eh/meh/aiight,
like they held on to the singer's balls throughout the whole recording argh
"I'm the stained glass sky, I grab my own balls"

Not the usual type of prog I'm into, but this thing is the tits. I actually enjoy Arch's approach quite a bit, and I like how he doesn't try to overpower the music he is singing over. He sounds like he's floating over it and adding accents to it when need be if that makes sense. Nice vocal lines.
