good review, one of your best. my issue is: i can picture how it sounds, but i dont quite know why i should love it. tough to get by just saying it sounds "human" without explicating further

Thank you both.

Adam: Fair enough, but in my defense, I did thoroughly explore the sounds of both "Cantus" and "Tabula Rasa" - me calling it 'human' was me trying to capture how organic it sounds.

This is very minimalist - Part uses very little to create an incredibly grandiose sound. I think me saying that it's minimal is apt - and there is a lot of silence between notes.

did you read my post or..........

cuz glass and riley and shit actually create bare soundscapes and never attempt to build on them and that's bona fide minimalism......as far as contemporary goes, this teeters on the edge of minimalism in my opinion, its very rich at times, using large string quartets, at least at some point in each song (theres gotta be buildup brah)

K

Pretty sure I'm not talking about Glass and that everyone associates part with the school of
minimalism. I don't know why you're getting so bent out of shape over this.

Also: using only two violins to create something as profound sounding as "Cantus..." is definitely
characteristic of minimalism, I could care less if there are artists out there using even less,
you're missing the point.
