"unfortunately creativity has seemed to replace the art of functional song writing"
That line may be spot on.
Still like this album more than Why There Are Mountains, but 4 listens through and the only song I can play in my head is Definite Darkness (which is absolutely great)

i think this is really good but--obvious complaint--sort of seems like theyre stuffing too much into
too little space. a whole thousand million good ideas but very few of them played out to satisfaction

By all accounts I should like this, but it feels like it's missing something

way better than why there are mountains, but boy ive never heard an album where a track towers so massively over the rest of the album as rifle eyesight does here

I love the unconventional songwriting, but at times it feels like D'Agostino has melody ADD and is never satisfied with what the current sound is that they're playing. Album is great, but they still have a lot of kinks to work out before this band makes a classic (which I believe is fully possible)

Rifle Eyesight is easily the best song they've written.
As to the review:
I don't see what's so wrong with having to be an active listener to enjoy the album.

I've always liked Why There Are Mountains much more than this one, both are awesome though. I liked the early version of Tunguska much more than the version that ended up on this album
