I hated this cd. The production sounds horrible and i just cant get into the guys voice.
Edit: Never mind what i said about the production, i just discovered they want to sound like some cheezy horror movie's soundtrack. This Message Edited On 06.11.06

This review seems to have gotten some play lately, it warms my heart
Scream, first off there are multiple vocalists, and I take it that you aren't a fan of black metal (correct me if I'm wrong), but yeah some people are going to hate this, and I'm alright with that, I just happen to think Black One is unique among all the albums I own (unique in an interesting way, I dunno if you can really call a Sunn O))) album good music, or even music at all, but there's something about it, for me anyway)

its worth pointing out that the vocals on bathory werent just recorded 'inside a hearse' but in fact inside a coffin that was sealed shut, and he is claustrophobic.

Awesome awesome awesome.

It struck me initially as the epitomizing Halloween record, and consequently I bought 00 Void, Flight of the Behemoth, and White1.
Great review, your brilliant second paragraph encapsulates the experience.

Yeah, actually this is actually a really good review. The way you described "It Took The Night To Believe" with the whole wave imagery is so perfect.

Iv spun this a few more times latley im starting to dig it more and more. i still dont like it as much as the white albums.
The songs just dont really develope enough for me, I like the brooding, build of the 15-20 minute tracks

i like Sin Nanna and It took a night to believe, but after that it gets to drony for me. :/

For me, CandleGoat takes the atmospheric creepyness of most sunn o))) and amplifies it to the level of terrifying.

Nice review, I'm going to check this out sometime in the next few days. Just need to find the right time where I'm not busy with anything else and can focus all my attention on this, it sounds like it needs a lot of attention lol.

This album is awesome. Very strong Black Metal influence on this album. Especially with guest vocals by Wrest from Leviathan and Malefic from Xasthur.

I was having troubles sleeping and so decided to entertain myself with 'predict the next song', with my iPod on shuffle. Sin Nanna popped up and I just about caved in to the amount of doom on that song. Single most intense moment of music-listening EVER.
There are no words to describe.

Anyways, I'm going to have t re-listen to this now that my taste in metal has expanded and I'm a lot more into black metal and then i can give thsi a more appropriate rating.

This is more drone doom/black ambient than black metal. The black metal influence is definitely there though. This Message Edited On 07.20.08

i find this album to be extremely unique. it really doesnt sound like anything else ive heard(even other sun o))) albums). i think the collaborations with wrest and maelific(sp?) add a lot to the oppressive atmosphere of this album.
i'm going to see them in a couple of months and have heard some stories about their live shows, but i'll just have to wait and see.
