I was still considering listening to this but I guess not. Patiently awaiting #50.

There are some very good, or in rarer cases, incredible live albums though.

Can you rec me one, Nag? If it's a band I'm reasonably familiar with I'll be only too happy to give it ago. I've heard Live At Leeds is legendary, but I'm not too familiar with The Who just yet. Maybe eventually =)

But yeah, any ideas? =)

No excuse whatsoever, as you really don't need the familiarity with this one. Just do yourself a favour and listen to it, please?

Also I agree with the comments above, Nirvana's and AiC's Unplugged albums are fantastic, though I'd say the former is the most essential.

But...aren't live albums awesome because you know how the original works sound? Isn't it all about making them seem unfathomably inferior? o.O

You have no idea how much I want to be your favourite user, Romulus.

Been awhile since i gave it a spin but its hard to top No Sleep 'til Hammersmith on the live record fun time stakes.

As for this thing, could not be arsed giving it a listen I just want Cornell and the lads to stop flirting with the world and drop a new album already.

Much of Live at Leeds can't be found on The Who's albums: a couple are covers, many songs were only issued as singles in the day; Heaven and Hell was never even properly released in a studio version. Basically you're set if you've heard My Generation, which I'm pretty sure anyone must have. The entire thing is a testament to everything that was good about The Who.

Besides, their three best albums aren't featured on it. Tommy is included only on the deluxe edition, Who's Next and Quadrophenia were recorded after Leeds. In fact, I would recommend the order Tommy > Leeds > Who's Next > Quadrophenia to anyone wanting to get into The Who, as it is their classic streak. You may skip Tommy for the moment though ;). I hope this is enough convincing for you Irving.

Superb setlist, but the album really isn't that great. Minimally enjoyable, though.
