good review, although i'd argue instead of this album representing total stagnation, this album sees ABR trying to add some innovation to their tried-and-true metalcore formula and inadvertently making a disjointed, tedious album in the process

Excellent review, although I disagree. While this has a lot of the same stuff that Constellations had, I find this one to be their best release to date. They've essentially perfected the sound they presented on that album and added some more experimentation. Carpe Diem and the title track are so good and Internal Cannon is one of their most interesting tracks yet.

"On one hand, Leveler is simply a good record, filled with really good songs.

...The songs are stale, rigid, and all around boring."

incoherence there?

Not as good as Constellations, but still a very great album.

In critiquing metalcore, it has become somewhat customary to point out the failings of the genre, as it has reputation for being one of the most incestuous scenes in modern music.

I want to neg simply for this sentence.

Anyway, I look forward to the 20 fanboy reviews countered by a couple of "enlightened" reviews. In any case this one is good.

You're right. It must be that there's something fundamentally wrong with the general population of sheeple that just like crappy metalcore.

I haven't heard it yet, aside from a couple of the songs they streamed. Those were on par with Constellations, though.

You can't judge the album based on the singles, they prove nothing. Except maybe Internal Cannon. Besides that one, the songs that arent the singles are the good ones.

I find this to be their best album by far and I'm really thinking of reviewing it. My only problem is I feel I'll get highly negged for reviewing a popular album.

but that one single i heard was bland as fuck. but then again so was the one from constellations

I take it you're talking about Empire and Thirty and Seven, respectively? Neither of those songs are terribly good.

Man, I would really love to read a review of a metalcore album that that doesn't mention metalcore being generic, incestous, etc.

Good review, though I did have a bit of an issue wrapping my head around the issue Nkillerriff brought up.

True, but do we need to be reminded of it in nearly every single review?
