you nailed some things dead on, that more established music journalists glaringly missed.

Ha. Yeah man I have really been enjoying the work as a whole, in particular 'Work', 'Sorry, Soldier', and 'Heat Lightnin'. I'd really like to know what inspired the latter, because its atmosphere floored me on first listen and to be honest, is what made me decide to jump on this review like I did.
It's an excellent album, you guys should be proud of what you accomplished here. And as always, it is always a pleasure to see band members commenting on reviews here.

itunes has a really cool bonus track.. amazon has like a little 90 second piano ditty we did at the end of the recording session.
also, to answer the heat lightnin' question.. its a very unlikely song. its influenced by 90's R&B, believe it or not. shit like r. kelly and d'angelo, mixed with a little prince, but clearly a MUCH different take on it.. we tried to write a song that we literally thought no one had ever written before.. at least that was the intent.
the song itself is about the dawn of the world, hence the "walked myself up on the dry land." we tried to make the softest song ever, almost like floating in the womb still, until, obviously, the bridge kind of explodes, signifying a huge change in atmosphere.
im glad you took notice to it.. it seems to be the sleeper track on the album for most.

also, all the drum beats in the song are actual sampled human heart beats. sorta creepy, right.

I actually picked up on that, but I didn't realize until I listened with headphones. Before that it sounded like distant explosions; maybe fireworks or bombs or something. I think that's what led me to images of the end of the world, or at least a night thunderstorm.
The influences for the song definitely surprised me, I heard more modest mouse in it than I did r. kelly (might just be because I'm stuck in an alt/indie mindset most of the time), but I think you succeeded in writing something that no one has really done before. Or at least as close to that as possible...and the heavier section at the end where the guitars kick in totally elevate it to epic-status, btw.

artists commenting on sputnik is pretty much the coolest thing ever. i wish more did.
|

Indeed. But the best one has got to be MacLethal trolling the fuck out of Inveigh's friend. That one still gives me the lolz.
PS - Is there any way of proving that it definitely was a band member commenting on here?

proof? probably not other than the fact that he only has 6 comments and knows a lot about the album
but im a trusting person
