Don't remember much about it now (honestly), it did have that epic opener (even though it sounded like a Muse tribute) & that one about witches which was decent.

None of their albums are bad per se (although you can diffinitely make an argument for Hymns), but they just haven't been able to really replicate the raw energy and passion from their debut. It really feels like a very emotional record.

I like the energy on here, it's very infectious & the song-writing is interesting/varied enough without feeling forced. The drumming on here is so cool as well, helps massively to make this album what it is.

I agree, the drumming is great. Energetic, but bouncy and downright danceable at times. Their drummer now...not so good.

as much as i adore most of the indie rock from the early mid 2000s this album never hit me like most
still some classic tunes tho

drumming and guitar work rule so much
the back half isnt as solid as the first tbh. if some of the songs were replaced with some of the early ep tracks like skeleton and two more years this could be their best, but i gotta still give that title to intimacy
fucking stellar band up until their hiatus

i can't argue with that
i think the fact the first song i heard by them was "skeleton" set my expectations way too high for this. I love that track to pieces, and this doesn't quite live up to that as a whole.
still need to check out "city". might check intimacy as well, but i just don't know if that will be my thing or not

I'd say up to and including this modern love the album is insanely consistent but pioneers onward is pretty hit and miss imo
I have a lot of personal attachment to intimacy, but even without that it's still worth checking out. it definitely gets a bad rep The electronic influence isn't necessarily strong on every track, as trojan horse halo and (for the most part) one month off are pretty conventional bloc party. the opening two tracks are pretty off putting at first but they're not necesarily bad songs (ares rules but it throws you off a lot on first listen). the last three songs are probably my favorite three bloc party songs, as well signs and biko are fucking gorgeous. it's definitely their best album in terms of ballads

this is one of the only indie albums that amazes me. might be the only one; i love this album. it is so driving and intensely beautiful the whole way. pretty much straight up post punk for modern day.

I like the part in She's Hearing Voices when he whispers the words "anal cider" so quietly you can barely hear him.

Such a shame that these guys became shit after this and A Weekend in the City.

Perhaps a decline so bad that it rivals even Linkin Park
(although I secretly kinda like Intimacy and Four just a lil bit)
