While this album seems to be a bit on the softer side, I still have enjoyed it so far.

The first two paragraphs say virtually nothing about the album. I suggest an intro should only be one paragraph.

'and Joutsen wisely avoids growl-centered points here' - I don't get this; his growls are the best part of the band (although admittedly, they didn't sound so good on Skyforger, but that's sorta besides the point).

'Some bands can get away with essentially re-releasing the same album' - I totally disagree.

'Amorphis seem to have prepared The Beginning of Times mostly for those who want a carbon copy of their last three (original) studio releases.' I don't think its issue is a lack of innovation (some songs later on sound unlike anything they've done before, and the earlier ones aren't exactly carbon copies); it just feels they're worn out, there's no energy.

Not a bad review overall, though.

His growls are mostly better here because he doesn't resort to them nearly as much and they don't become the backbone voice to any of the tracks. They're generally best when mixed almost evenly together.

And if some bands can't get away with releasing the same album, then groups such as August Burns Red and especially Amon Amarth would have been done in a long time ago.

It's probably their least interesting album of the decade, but it still has some good songs

This is better than Queen of Time?

You're out of your mind, birb

This is easily their worst album with Joutsen.

Queen of Time, Red Cloud and Silent Waters are the band's best albums with Joutsen, easily.

Amazing from front to back. The rest carry a varying amount of filler tracks, with this one sitting at the bottom, quality-wise.

that much*

message in the amber is emblematic of that.

the melodies that do exist there don't appeal to me at all and the song isn't that interesting rythmically either. thats more or less the whole album.

haven't jammed silent waters in quite a while but otherwise id prefer skyforger and circle over their last two.

Silent Waters is one of the best albums ever made.

Yes, it's quite possibly THE BEST Amorphis album. Also, their debut is EXTREMELY underrated.

This and Circle are on the lower end of the Joutsen era, but they're still excellent. I'm even contemplating being wrong.
