Album cover looks like an all-female Judas Priest tribute band.

"i thought you bumped this shit up, conrad? what happened?"

I realized that this album still sucks

And STOP SHOUTING!, you're right, the message of "Born This Way" is more "love yourself", but fuck, if her method of delivering the "love yourself" message isn't the most trivializing and patronizing thing ever

is that seriously how you're going to respond lol

Lauryn Hill and Alanis Morrissette both very obviously belonged to other genres (the way Alanis was marketed at the time was aimed squarely at the grunge crowd)

dude. JLP sold 33 million copies (as of 09)... but it was still the #1 selling pop album of the 90's (as of 99) (followed immediately by Whitney and Shania) Also it sold 3x more copies than the most successful grunge record (Ten)...

And what does genre really have to do with your assertion, that the women that were selling records by the bucketload . . . were bland and emotionless, no more than vehicles for songs that could have been performed by anybody? Did Alanis just sell too many records to be included here or something? I mean, i think you're basing this whole retarded point on those VH1 Divas shows...

Faith Hill and Jewel were both boring as shit

blasphemy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dls_cBmUt7Q

And nobody in the UK ever gave a shit about Sarah Maclachan

lol the UK

Also, that paragraph you quoted says absolutely nothing about their voices, just their songs and their personalities.

ok so let me get this straight...

you: 'they were bland/emotionless/boring, their songs could have been performed by anyone!'

me: dude whitney has an extraordinary voice. not many people could have pulled off her shit from the 90's. it was swag as fuck.

you: her voice is irrelevant to this discussion!!

me: the discussion of whether the pop landscape in 90's, where females pop artists got by on being good singers = inferior to the 10's, where the biggest pop stars (a category that apparently includes, Kate Nash and Lily Allen) excel because of how cooky they act or dress off-stage? That discussion?

you: yeah

me: ok, so let me get this straight... exceptional voice + love songs = bland, replaceable; autotune + crazy lyrical content (despite the fact that all of it is still written by the same people at the label, exactly like it was in the 90's) = a totally irreplaceable, unique contribution to music and WAYYYYYYY better...

you (covering your ears to tune me out): WAKE UP IN THE MORNIN FEELIN LIKE P. DIDDY...

If you truly believe this album is worth a five, I won't even acknowledge you as competent human beings by further insulting you with this comment.

And on that note this lady is just one half Madonna, one half Marilyn Manson. Nothing she does hasn't been done before, its all just for shock value and her own ego.

at the very least, Erotica:

(a) had good songs, and

(b) dealt with sex in a legitimately interesting and, for its time, provocative manner
