in general, i can't stand artists whose selling point is anger for anger's sake.

that's a bit off topic

well so do i, but that's not the point. you heard it 10 years ago so there's a nostalgia factor. odds are there's stuff that if you were to hear for the first time right now you wouldn't be into it.

how so? this guy just seems angry/bitter for no reason other than he knows it'll sell. when i listen to an album like mmlp or ratm's s/t, there's a certain legitimacy to their anger that's absent here.

i don't find him angry though. like seriously on some songs like bastard's title track yeah but he even points out the fact that he's angry in the song and the context explains the anger.

i find tyler's music interesting because he's lyrically strong and inventive as well as having a unique lurching production style. he's not extraordinarily dextrous flow-wise but his delivery is so fucking solid.

yeah im also hesitant to call this 'angry'

i think it's a shame that everything about theatrical music and explicit lyrics has to be broken down differently so that white people can feel ok about listening to it...

i'll concede that's he's less angry and more just incessantly trying to elicit shock from his listeners (don't kid yourselves; shock value was the draw from day one), which i happen to find exceedingly boring.

this review is great.
