can't really fault this album tbh, hence the rather high rating. does exactly what it sets out to do,

and piledriver waltz is superb.

film is also highly recommended

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has chosen to record a soundtrack to a feature film ('Submarine') as his debut solo release. At 19 minutes & only including 5 full songs (plus a brief intro), it's short & begins a little underwhelmingly, but gets better as it goes along. Intimately stripped down & restrained, the predominantly acoustic songs are sweet & charming with subtle melodies appearing on subsequent listens. As always with Turner, quality song-writing is the main strength, and this is no exception as wit abounds with quotable lyrics everywhere. Recommended Tracks: It's Hard to Get Around the Wind & Piledriver Waltz.

It's good, but I prefer 'It's hard to get around the wind'.

this EP is so beautiful. really simple and none of the songs really do enough to distinguish themselves, but the vocals, sense of melody, sense of emotion... everything is perfect. has such a warm, sentimental vibe. this is the sort of thing that should soundtrack your first love. which is probably why it suits the film so well.

It's that time of year again where I listen to this EP loads and get warm, fuzzy feelings from it.

Finally got a chance to see this film. Beautiful stuff. It was absolutely brimming with fantastic shots and editing.

Seeing as I already love Arctic Monkeys, I feel like I should hear this ep in more depth. I always put it off because I wanted to enjoy it with the context of the film in mind.
