@andcas: Those vocal harmonies on that part are one of the best moments on the album, me thinks.

Tried this again, but I literally can't get past the first five minutes; I know if I'd let it grow on me, I'd love it, but I just can't get past that 90 degree learning curve.

you better tell that negger to scram. we don't take kindly to his types in these parts.
i actually like The Great Misdirect more, but Colors is awesome still, even if the replay value is a little lower than their other albums

What learning curve? You mean how intense it gets in the second song?

Yeah, basically I can't handle the heaviness whatsoever, which is a shame because I'm sure there's some good buried in there if I gave it a proper chance. But really, I just hate what I'm hearing every time I try the second track.
Also what's funny, is that your review expresses almost the exact same sentiments, although way more eloquently than mine, as my DT review I just posted, which is kind of an odd coincidence. The 'I don't take it as seriously but it's still fun' angle is EXACTLY what I tried to express in my review, although not as well as you did here.
But yeah, I guess I'll try it a few more times, but I just hate the heaviness so much that it's actually an unpleasant experience for my poor ears to try.

hahaha that's funny; the same kind of thing happened to me yesterday. I was thinking of buying a specific album because I heard good things about it and then a review for it popped up right then.
Yeah I looked at your tastes and it seems like these guys would be a bit of a stretch. Try listening to Prequel To The Sequel or White Walls; they're off the second half of the album and the emphasis is way more on melody. Thanks for the complements, man.

Nice, I'll give those a try. I guess I thought that Opeth were much too much for me but I eventually... sort of... got used to the growls, so I'll just keep plugging away at this, and hopefully it'll click soon.
And then I have to try that with Jane Doe, which seems even more impossible XD

Oh, for a second I thought this was a different album. I was afraid you gave a piece of crap a high rating.
I approve.

this is one of the most accessible metal albums I've ever heard. if you're having a hard time getting into something like this, I'd probably avoid stuff like Converge, which is much much much heavier than this.

This isn't THAT accessible. It's accessible maybe in that it's not super heavy or extreme, but it's quite off the wall and hard to digest at first.
