Ok then you really shouldn't try this band's main man's solo project Black Sun Aeon, although it's a bit different in sound (melodic death/doom). Dude's last album was 89 minutes in length, so you'll probably feel like, if you ever finish it, you've spent your whole day listening to it.

I've heard of them but haven't checked anything out of theirs. If it's similar to this then I could definitely see 89 minutes of it feeling like an eternity, but if he uses the doom part of the sound well it could be ok.

It's not too much like this actually, just some of the melodies sound similar. In fact, the closest thing to Black Sun Aeon is Swallow The Sun I'd say.

From a musical standpoint, the formula is basically the same...actually the quality is too. You can't really go wrong with either one, but if you dislike one, you'll probably dislike the other too. This one's a little more energetic, but yeah, the musical formula is basically the same.

you're pretty right about them using similar melodies on their albums but i love the cleans.

Yeah the cleans have gotten better from album to album. I still like Saukkonen's side projects (Black Sun Aeon, Dawn of Solace) more because they're darker and more progressive, but Before The Dawn is a good band for what it is.

Already? Oh well, I guess I'm not that surprised because: 1) Tuomas Saukkonen is in this band and he's officially the hardest working musician in Finland 2) After this album some old members departed and I guess it's not that odd that the new ones wanted to get the ball rolling as fast as possible.
