Pros:
- You covered a lot of the points well.
- Good length for a first review.
Cons:
- Don't just pass off the bass and drums so easily. For example, if you can't hear the bass, then just say that "the bass was too quiet and passive" instead of saying that you don't have an ear for bass (same goes for drums). A good reviewer needs to have an ear for all instruments, and suggesting otherwise isn't good for your reputation.
Tips (neutral points):
- A few spelling and grammar errors. Not such a bad thing (everyone makes mistakes like these, except for staff reviewers), but just keep that in mind.
- I know that the Sputnikmusic community seems to like it when you discuss more about the album as a whole, not just it's individual songs (because it's your first review, you probably didn't know that). It makes it seem like the album is an album instead of a mere collection of songs. This isn't an essential topic, but a lot of staff reviewers use this topic.
- You talked about the material with a lot more of a personal take. Personally, I think that's interesting, but it's not a writing technique you want to overuse (especially on Sputnik). In fact, keep it minimal, and talk more about the consolidated facts about the music while occasionally using a bit of personal points to back it up (ONLY A BIT, and make sure that they're sort subtle).
- Take notice of ButcheredChildren and letsgofishing's tips. Butchered didn't express it in the best way (to be specific, he was a douche about it), but his tips are good (more or less).
- Come up with unique topics instead of just the general topics (instruments, vocals, songs, etc.). It's not essential to make a good review, but it's effective.
Conclusion:
You get a pos'. You have a lot of potential to be a good reviewer (kind of reminds me of myself when I started out, with a user called Irving giving me lots of tips along the way). Read a lot of the staff reviews and see how they talk about things. Also, keep writing reviews even if people think they're crap. That way, you can get tips on how to write reviews at a professional level. I hope to see more of your stuff soon! Good work, bro!
