don't worry about it Yotimi lol
I don't worry about specific genres per se, so it kind of went unnoticed
been listening, having trouble with deciding on a final rating

Interesting how this review talks about the prevalence of Phil Selway, while another says "In fact, Phil Selway may well have been out on holiday, because it doesn’t sound like he contributed more than a few beats for this album." I don't know who to believe.

The fact is, Phil's drumming is cut up an and processed a lot on this album, like on "Airbag".
Probably should have mentioned that in the review. FUCK.
But yeah, after rereading again, this review is a bit too wordy. I definitely need to cut that out.

Album's cool, gets the highest score I give to new releases. See how well it fares in a few months

Ah kay, after thinking about it I touched up the review a bit. I considered that since it's a new big release, there will be more people reading it than usual, so I want it to be a bit more readable. Hopefully the changes make a difference, as I wasn't as pleased with the first version as I should've been.

Solid review; pos.
Niggles: modus operendi.
Modus operandi.
Aside from that, solid review. The only criticism I would offer is that you should consider a move away from the actual track/music-based analysis, and attempt to perceive the album as a more holistic work...clear as mud, right? Basically, what I'm trying to say is that this review is good, great even; but it's a class below Butler's (see Staff review) because his demonstrates an acute awareness of the world around him, and how it links into and feeds this particular Radiohead album. Here:
Despite that, Radiohead are, as ever, taking cues from the music around them that most excites them. There's a strong and obvious influence from Burial's self-titled debut on "Feral" despite the frantic drums, which hark back to "Sit Down, Stand Up" - it's a hypnotic combination between serenity and nervous energy that carries through into the excellent "Lotus Flower", which is surely the song here that most deserves the title of 'Radiohead classic'. "Give Up the Ghost" seems to be informed by How to Dress Well too. To contrast those, there's "Bloom", which opens with a loop that calls Terry Riley to mind, and the piano ballad "Codex", which sounds distinctly Beatles-esque when compared with "Videotape" and "Sail to the Moon". Flying Lotus and Can are other touchstones, if ones that are harder to pin down to individual tracks.
Don't get me wrong - my criticism is not "you aren't Nick Butler". I'm just saying that there may be an upper echelon of writing that we should all aspire to - one that goes beyond using big words and making sweeping grandiose statements (for the record, I didn't find the "thesaurus phenomenon" particularly stifling). And this is something I think you can aspire to.
Cheers.

Thanks for the criticism Irving (and pointing out that typo, I knew I should've double checked that phrase)
Anyways, I'll be the first to admit this isn't my strongest review. In fact, most of my other reviews are more holistic, as I typically dislike track-by-track reviews. I think the only reason I went with that on this one is because there's only eight songs, but I could have done it better no doubt.

holy shit, Irving's tellings some truth

I thought it was a great review (my previous comment may have sounded a bit too brisk - I apologize), it's just that I feel you will be able to do a lot better over time (as you develop your skills); I was just hoping to be able to demonstrate to you things that you could consider doing.
But overall, good job SloppyMilkshake =)

No reason to apologize, really, I appreciate it. Not enough people actually give me constructive criticism. The fact that people are starting to recognize me around here though is enough to keep me working at honing my writing.

I'm hoping that starting to criticize the works of others will show the site how useful it (criticism) actually is, and that it will end up helping me gain some criticism of my own as well.
We all need a good kick in the behind every now and then.

Yeah, to be honest, my only complaint about this site I ever have is that we have a feature to "like" or "dislike" a review, but instead of people actually giving constructive criticism when they dislike a review, they simply comment "u suck bro, neg". I hardly ever neg, and if I do, I explain why so the person can become a better writer. I mean, we're all here to be better writers, eh? I mean, that's why I'm here. That, and I luh you guys and I've found so much music through this site.

I like the button. It allows me to gauge how popular a review of mine is, and it tells me if there's someone unhappy with it (even if they don't explain their justification for their neg vote). Also, it acts as a nice symbol of external validation. I say keep it.

Yeah, I like the button for those purposes, but at the same time, the concept of basically "reviewing record reviews" is silly. I think that if you use the button you should be required to explain your reasoning, whether you pos'd it or neg'd it.

It's way better than a lot out there... But I still find it to be underwhelming. Maybe I set my expectations too high. I'll probably give it a 3.5 or 4.
