ben, their albums tend to have a few pieces of greatness surrounded by dross , secret treaties and fire of unknown origin are probably the most consistent

If you classify dad rock as anything before a certain date then fair enough.
But if you think of dad rock as predictable 'boring old fart' music...well, a lot of BOC isnt that - they did loads of weird quirky stuff scattered arounf the Roeser penned radio friendly rock.

i've always thought of dad rock as like, well, what your dad would listen to - simple, cheesy 70s and early 80s hard rock. don't really see it as a negative by itself mind you
weird quirky stuff does sound good though, cos even though there are a lot of awesome bands, old hard rock can get really monotonous

I'm with you. They started off as a sort of acid rock outfit and their early albums are quite odd and later on they usually balanced cheesy 'dont fear reaper' stuff with more interesting off the wall stuff.

the part after he says ''if only you could have been there my dear'' that guitar part after and then the solo is just awesome! that part until the end of the song, and the ending guitars in particular are very atmospheric.
