^ I agree! This is still pretty good, though. Sputnik needs to give this band more lovin'.

Stellar album. I'm very tempted to even say it's perfect. "The Drums Pound..." is perhaps slightly dull compared to the other tracks, but they're just about all masterpieces.

You're mad. This is one of the best recent atmospheric black metal album in memory. It's really a tough one to find the appeal to perhaps - but I assure you there are certain qualities to this album that you won't find in any Agalloch or WittR album. It's a very "self-serving" album - and most people will dismiss it due to lack of patience. If any readers are unsure about this album...
GET IT! It's a must listen. There's simply nothing quite just like it as far as BM goes.

who cares when agalloch and wittr are boring to begin with

Ire, my very point is that this band isn't like those bands. Having said that, if the reason you don't like them is because they're "boring", maybe this style of black metal isn't your taste, which is understandable. It definitely doesn't feature uber blast beats with technical guitar work or anything like that. In fact, this album is a lot slower paced than anything Agalloch or WittR have ever put out by a long shot. But unlike those bands, Skagos writes compositions with a lot more weight to them. If I were to listen to Agalloch or WittR, I feel assaulted by 'homage' to other music. Skagos on the other hand simply takes the concepts commonly used by "Northwestern" black metal bands and pushes it in a different direction. Can't believe I've had this album sitting around for about 3 years before I found it enjoyable.

Coming from the guy who has never heard of a capital letter? ;)
It's cool though. I just find the tastes here at Sputnik to be curious. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the review (it's a good review and I applaud the OP's tastes). But I've noticed a general disdain for Northwest BM lately, probably because of its surprisingly high popularity over the past years. I can see why it'd be really easy to listen to this album and write it off as a crappy meandering bedroom WitRR rip off...
Meaninwhile, everyone else on the internet will enjoy this album for the stellar piece of work it is. There's a reason why a lot of people find this album to be phenomenal - it immerses with thick atmosphere and memorable songwriting. Constant "wow" moments throughout for me. The lack of Burzum-esque undertones makes it feel a lot fresher than many other BM bands.
By the way, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind on the album. I'm just trying to encourage people who haven't listened to this album to at least give it a try. If you're in the right mood for it, it will really hit the spot.

I wouldn't say it's that good, but opinions is opinions, man. But uh
this album is a lot slower paced than anything Agalloch or WittR have ever put out by a long
shot.
You don't even listen to Agalloch, do you?
I'd like this a lot more if the rhythm guitar were louder. The way it's mixed it doesn't convey
much power.
But the reason I came here was to ask about their new track: Would that be considered "shoegaze" in
parts?

no im really not i just understand that this band is bad

QWE DONT MAKE ME HURT YOU BRO. WitTR's other stuff might not be good but you have to like Two Hunters at least. And yeah Agalloch aren't really black metal, they're mostly more doomy folk/post-rock.

these guys aren't great, but Two Hunters is amazing.

I wish this band was still active. If they were to actually progress from where they went on Anarchic and got it recorded properly they could be v good.
