This album needs more love on this site.

Seriously the title track alone has incredible blues guitar, symphonic horns, operatic choirs, Rick Wright's organ playing and the fuqing PSYCHEDELIC VIOLIN/GUITAR DUET C'MON PEOPLE. SPUTNIK usually jizzes their pants about this kinda stuff and that's only the first song.

yeah this probably doesn't get much love because really its the worst of their 70s albums (except maybe Obscured By Clouds)

Track 1 has some nice parts, summer 68 is an excellent song, but the rest of the album kinda suck, in my opinion.

I really liked "Atom Heart Mother". The song, not so much the album. Yes, the song wasn't worthy enough to drag on as long as it did, and it had its weak moments, but overall, I really thought it was catchy. "If" is a vocals treat; I thought "Summer 68'" was kind of gay; "Fat Old Sun" was good (there's a much better bootleg version of it, though - Montreux 1970), and "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" sure was something else wasn't it?

The buildup in Father's Shout is incredible. I can't see how you can rate it so low or why Floyd themselves dislike it so.

The randomness of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast and munching on toast with some spoken-word must be the origin of Dark Side's spoken-word randomness. Either way, I like that song, it's very calming and a good background tune in general.

I generally associate "hard to get into" songs with incoherent, loud or heavy-contrasting sounds. This album has none of that, so you're wrong.
