I will definitely check out Noire some day.

So far Matter + Form is still my favourite followed by Futureperfect and Empires.

Since dec 2005 Matter + Form hasn't lost anything of its magic and I love the atmosphere.

Favourite songs on the album:

1. Perpetual

2. Homeward

3. Entropy

4. Strata

5. Chrome

6. Arena

7. Lightwave

8. Endless Skies

Also yeah the opening song on Noire is really strong. It makes me sad and angry to know that from the song Immersed on everything went downhill on Noire. Every song from then on just gets much more predictable with the same tired 3 chorus routine as if Ronan doesn't care. It's just laziness to me.

I know most songs on Empires have that routine but they have great atmosphere and are very strong songs.

And Matter + Form will always be very magical to me. As soon as I listen to it again I'm immediately sucked into that world and I don't want to come back to reality. Only song I usually skip is Colours Of Rain but all other songs are awesome.

Yep the opening track on Noire is amazing. I haven't the album in full since 2018, but I should check and see if I feel the same as you about the whole thing

Matter and Form is, in my opinion, the most experimental in terms of soundscape. I remember fans being tepid in response when he played a few tracks at a concert in DC that preceded the release of the album, and his teasing them about wanting the sound of old stuff when he wanted to grow and make new things. Chrome is a classic; the instrumentals are strong; Perpetual is also a classic, and it coheres well despite its variance in tone. It's just a solid album.
