Thanks for responding! It's always cool when band members take the time to discuss their music with others. Here's my thoughts:

I heavily disagree with everyone's statements about this album being a "Wankfest"....BRAINDRILL is a wankfest

Well like you said you're their bassist hahaha. Pretty ironic that you mentioned Braindrill since that's exactly the band your band is being compared to!

Rings Of Saturn (at the very least) have parts that slow down and become intelligible...

Yeah, I actually noticed a doom metal influence there, very interesting. It blends surprisingly well.

and it still doesnt make them any less talented than other artists just because they prefer to shred more than 50% of every song"

True. I guess it's that some people have difficulty taking said bands seriously. Sometimes it seems that the only reason such bands exist is so they can toot their own horns and show off.

If you do in fact think the guitar sounds like shit,

Uh-oh, I guess I did say that. It was a personal point of annoyance since the guitar, in my opinion, often sounds obscured with a muddy sound.

It puts his automatic harmonies above the 27th Fret, so technically they're impossible to actually play. Which may account for that inhuman/almost fake sound.

Aaaahhh that explains a lot. I know what harmonizers are, no worries.

Thanks again!

Ya man! I was afraid that you would take offense to some of the things that i said (i'm glad you didnt, it always helps to know that there are people out there who know how to debate things well haha). But yeah, I did find it rather funny that ROS was getting compared to BrainDrill haha -

(IMO at least); I never really thought that ROS and BrainDrill ever sounded anything alike, even before I started playing with them. I always viewed BrainDrill as more of a "Straight-Forward" Tech-Death band, whereas ROS tends to sortof *feel the ground* for more of those "WTF" type sounds and genre-mixing oddness in their songs - Therefore forcing the listener to pay much more attention to detail. I've owned their album since the day it came out, and for all the times I have listened to this album front-to-back; I've only recently come to notice JUST how much layering was actually done in this album; In other words, the more you listen to this album, the better it actually gets. haha

And no problem dude, good to find someone on here i can have a good debate/conversation with hahha

...And I mean if you really think about it - With the way the music industry is these days, you almost HAVE to be able to shred-nutsack to be able to really compete with other bands that exist (I suppose Tech Metal would be the #1 prime example of this since, that is the main genre that is now FAMOUS for this very thing haha) - And at the very least: Rings of Saturn chose to take that basic idea, and run with it in a completely new direction (well, maybe not new direction, but an entirely new way of executing this maneuver haha)

For sure, it really is a pile of confusion, but you're right in saying that it keeps the listener's attention. It sure kept mine haha.

I've only recently come to notice JUST how much layering was actually done

Yeah, and that really adds to the what-the-heck-is-going-on feeling. It also adds to the less straightforward tech. death approach which you feel separates the band from Brain Drill - I can buy that. This is indeed an incredibly detailed album, 10 points for ROS. I still wonder, were melodies ever focused on when making the album, or did they just show up?

you almost HAVE to be able to shred-nutsack

I suppose you're right, I mean, some of the more popular bands on the site are (don't quote me on this hahaha): Periphery, Converge, Protest The Hero, etc. They sure know their riffs. Yes, tech metal is definitely the #1 example for insane riffing.

And at the very least: Rings of Saturn chose to take that basic idea, and run with it in a completely new direction

I'd say so, I still consider this to be one of the weirdest albums I've ever heard. Yet it's a tech death album! Not much variety in that genre... until now.

Agreed (To combustion07 AND pizzamachine haha)...

As far as I know; The melodies werent actually a focused part of the end product - They more or less just *happened* during the writing process...HOWEVER, the new album they're about to start recording IS going to have intentional melodic parts/leads in the songs, which, if you watch the new update here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlUPJshN0YE

...You (at the beginning of the video) will hear some of the new riffs/licks that will be used on the upcoming album....Hope everyone digs the new riffs.

And (not to be one of those shameless, unabashed, self-promoters or anything) but we're getting a Summer Tour lined up (most likely covering U.S. and Canada) so everyone be looking for us at a venue near you soon! hahaha

The only reason I rate this album a 4 is because the musicians are insane...

After listening to the album I was like "What just happened?"

Great review even though I think your rating didn't match up

So what's the deal man? Are you still the bassist and just not touring or are you out of the band now? Heard they were auditioning bassists.

I honestly don't care if I get shit for this but I think this is a perfect album. I bought it and I've played the shit outta it. I found nothing wrong with the album since it perfectly combines two of my favorite genres, Deathccore and Technical Death.

So tired of these bands that try to meld all these different styles into one. Only a few do it well like Revocation and Between the Buried and Me, etc. Most just need to stick to one thing and actually try to make it sound good.
