Not sure how this could be anything but a 5 considering the songs on this. Oh well, great review regardless.

Because I could never justify a classic rating for a compilation.

Really? That's odd. If anything a compilation album is easier to give a classic rating to I'd think, since it usually collects the very best work from an artist.

@Nagrarok
agreed

If you use that logic, you could give so many compilations a 5. It would be way too easy. And whenever we talk about a 'classic' album, do we ever mean a best of/greatest hits? No, the term has always been used for studio records.
But then again, it's just my personal strictness on the rule.

There's nothing like a classic LP
edit: I agree with your reasoning Nag. We posted at the same time

Jethro knows what I mean. It's pretty much generally accepted that we don't call compilations classics. They're judged on how valuable they are in creating a representative/thorough overview of the artist.
|
| |
I prefer to make my own compilations of stuff than to depend on other people picking the best tracks, and it's quite easy to do that nowadays of course.

Of course, that's not the point of this discussion though.

Album Rating: 4.5
A classic album is an entire masterpiece of work done by an artist in a given time rather than an entire career's best stuff.
|
| |
It's an extension of the discussion. Certainly not irrelevant to the discussing of the worth of a compilation.
And on the latest point:
The thing about an album being written all at the same time of course is that there is a unity to it.

I can't disagree with it, Hans.

Ok. Here is a judicious compromise: 4.5/4.5 for a flawless compilation.

Lol
I agree with nagrarok and Jethro entirely but...
Then I'm reminded of Bread "Anthology" hmmmm
I guess I can also say: "4.5/4.5 for a flawless compilation."

Man, you're pumping these reviews out faster than I can read 'em. Great job, as per usual.

God that moustache is on another fucking level. Amazeface.

Great review. This compilation slays.
Also, Scarborough Fair/Canticle needs some love in this thread.
