The albums to come (The Yes Album, Fragile, CTTE, TFPO and Relayer) are timeless and ageless.

They could have been recorded last week.

No. To make a long story short; Progressive rock roots come from classical music, then jazz and then psychedelic rock. Not vice versa. The tip of a pyramid is pointing up, after all. Yes is one of the main precursor of that grandiose, out of this world free-form rock movement soon called progressive rock. The 'classic era' is reserved to only one decade: the late 60's to the late 70's. Only. Then came the advent of the ruthless Dark Age wich almost destroyed the genre. Even if prog resurfaced somewhere in the 90's, it has never been the same again. Good old classic-prog was replaced by its cheap version, a distant cousin: a restricted 'sub-sub-genre' called neo-prog. Sadly, the 70's prog monsters who survived till then has to be conform to that mold or be cast out.

'Time and a Word' is an interesting transition from the bluesified influence of their debut to the more progressive and grandiose rock leanings of their next few albums. Nonetheless, this album still has its moments. Just not as often.

title track is great

you know what? the live versions of many of the T&AW songs rock out and far surpass the recorded versions.....and would make a killer album in and of themselves.
especially "No Opportunity, No Experience....." from the Beat Club performance and "Everydays".
Oh yeah, and "Astral Traveller".......oh wait, "Then" live also is superior.
"Time and a Word" and "Sweet Dreams" sound basically the same live as they do on the album.
Check out the 1997 "Something's Coming" compilation released by the late great Pete Banks!

Yeah I'll agree about the production, but song wise, "Then" and "Astral Traveller" are as strong as stuff on The Yes Album.

Gotta disagree with you there, none of the stuff compare with stuff from TYA. As good as this is, that album is leagues above it.

Even the remastered version does not correct the production flaws the album sadly suffers from. That's a shame, since songs like Then, Everydays and the title-track are brilliant gems.
