Unfortunatly, the album is not nearly as good or well written as this review is.

OK, so the fierce resistance to criticism has forced me to have another listen to this album.

I'd really really like to know - What makes this band so different from the vast majority of dumb metal around them, other than they've chosen to use a different level of melody than most other bands? They don't feel particularly original to me. Just a slight variation on countless other acts and styles.

Maybe it's just that I vastly prefer Gothenburg style metal to classic death metal. Who knows.

Arucard - I respect your opinion, and it'd be nice if you respected mine and quit patronising me.

Honestly, I don't understand that. I've never heard a single band that sounds remotely like them.

But I'm not going to argue with your opinion.

I'm not patronising you, i just don't particulaly like Gothenburg music because too me, it all sounds cloned.

Shadows : I think Aseroth doesn't like the more brutal side of DM, which is fine, and which is probably why it doesn't sound disimilar to bands like Vital Remains and Behemoth.

Progressive death metal at the least. Oh and the title track off of this owns anything Arsis has ever done.

The title track is freakin' epic, but i think it overshadows their other work. The Promise of Never sticks in my head more than ADFD.

Just a note, their demo material is also amazing.

The intro is simply mindblowing. The atmospheric part I mean.

Ditto to that my friend, ditto indeed. I love how they go from the melodic atmospheric part to the death metal. It's neck breaking.

As much as I hate Arsis...this is starting to grow on me.

ADFD has so many levels, it's impossible to know where to start. On one hand, you have the face crushing riffs, and absolute brutality. On the other, you have the atmospheric.

They come together to create an almost enjoyable experience. The only thing that hampers the whole thing is the vocalist. I absolutely hate his vocals...they are generic, irritating, and generally just bug the hell out of me.

I know I'm going to antagonize myself here.. but come on, that's just exaggeration. They're more brutal than most melodic death, but they aren't anything too original. Granted, they managed to make a 13-minute epic of almost pure melodic death metal, but it's not such a monumental achievement.

I love the title track, but I still think it's overhyped.

No exaggeration. If you can find a band that truly sounds like Arsis, then I owe you something big. Nothing generic about them.

Carcass, Arch Enemy. You did say "remotely". I think those bands, along with others, sound at least remotely like Arsis.

 I'm assuming you mean Heartwork-era Carcass and old Arch Enemy. Sure, they have the occasional similarity, but overall those bands are nothing alike.

Except Carcass and Arch Enemy. I bought Heartwork last week and it's amazing how Michael Amott tried to run with that style. It's too bad he only did 3 albums with it before screwing Johan.

I am assuming Heartwork-era Carcass. I've heard the eariler albums are far less melodic, I was actually surprised at how similar AE and Carcass sounded after hearing Heartwork. You can really tell who writes the bulk of the music in both bands.

Early Carcass was grind. Going from their first three albums to Heartwork was a huge transition.

It's also funny to see what happened after Amott left. Arch Enemy was basically his Heartwork band while the other guys went even less heavy with Sawnsong.

It has minimal grind moments. But it's not nearly enough to be grind. This Message Edited On 11.21.05

Thank you Jom, I was quite surprised. It's pretty awesome. Now the just need to organize their review section so it's easy to find without scrolling all over! I'm happy either way.

Necroticism = grind
