It would be so hard to pick a favorite, although for me it's probably Spill. There literally isn't a track on here that isn't incredible in its own way. Probably deserves a 5 and may get one from me soon.

Best is easily "The Clouds," incredible ending. Still doesn't touch "A Year In The Garden Shed" but not really fair to compare

Spill is such a jam

why didn't they just write like one more song and call it a full-length honestly? people care more about LPs than EPs, this could've gotten more attention

Always agreed, butt. I basically regard it as an LP anyway, but it might have helped with the band's initial levels of exposure.

Will still never forget hearing Spill on Youtube in 2009 and losing my shit thinking it was a legit Daisy demo. Funny how this band kind of ended up being as good or better anyway.

The Demo of The Clouds off of In the House of Dust is so much better than the album version here.
I am finally getting back to listening to this in full. It still holds up so well.

While I think they're both strong vocalists on their own merits, with Mason being the better one to anchor a band full-time, I do miss the blend that used to come from him and Gregg Andrew DellaRocca. His unique twang is something that elevated the early EPs with that extra vocal dimension. Of course, I'm very grateful that Billy Dupree is still in the band too; definitely the guy I converse with the most and his screams are absolutely integral and a key in differentiating this act from Tigers on Trains (speaking of which, more Christian Van Deurs would always be a good thing in either act -- so much crazy good talent associated with this band lmao).

@Sowing I didn't realize Greg had so much singing and departed, nice callout. These early releases are just magic.

Yeah, I adore Varuna and Shrine but the first two EPs are still unmatched.

Varuna is still my fave

Varuna indeed rules. Slex, did you check their most recent EP from 2023 and the single from last year (Heat Signature)? All pretty great stuff.

Yeah that's actually become my 2nd favorite of theirs

Yeah, didn't start that high for me but it's a huge grower. Haven't heard much from them since they dropped Heat Signature but I hope they release another LP some day. It seemed like the lack of commercial success surrounding Shrine hindered them a bit. It's a shame because their popularity or lacktherof has never stood in the way of them being one of the best bands in this indie-rock sub-scene.

Their last ep was so so good.

Unfortunately it has very little to do with the quality of their work. Alternative music like this simply isn't as popular as it once was, and it's much harder for any rock band to blow up in the streaming era. Now, it's almost like social media -- gather a dedicated base, appeal to your following. Much harder to make money that way, though. Had these guys formed in 2000, the world would have been theirs.
