The Used's first album is way better but the sound is very similar.

The sound of this album is a lot like old The Used stuff Emim.

I'll have to get both then and compare.

Honestly, this might be their best album. Great songwriting pushes this beyond the others. Keep in mind this is their debut, and not many labels will give a debuting band much time in the studio. I don't know the full details behind the recording of this, but it's safe to assume they only had between 5 days to a week to completely record everything, and not much money was spent to mix and master it either.

A lot of bands starting out who aren't self financed/produced end up with a crappy sounding debut, even if the songwriting is good. Unless they happen to land a contract on a larger label, in which case they get a slightly larger budget, but still nothing great. Perhaps things seem rushed and out of whack because the record label wasn't willing to shell out more money for an unproven act.

Oneiron, I talked about that in my review. I blamed the producer and engineers, not the band. However, I don't see where you're getting at with the songwriting. Most of the songs progress pretty aimlessly. Again, with more time and a better team, this record could have been better.

Fixed quite a few sentences that read kind of awkwardly that I was surprised no one pointed out.

@fr33convict - Sorry, guess i glossed over it and missed that. I just prefer the songwriting here though, even if the songs don't shine as much. Still not a truly good album, but I like it more than the crap that came after it
