Yeah, that's my impression too. It's alright for me anyway. What about you?

Don't listen to Premiata Forneria Marconi people. They're only the best Italian prog act ever.

I listened to their debut this morning. The thing with Italian prog groups is that their vocals usually bug the shit out of me.

Yeah I know what you mean. My brother can't get over it either. What spoils the sauce still more is when they reproduce their original material into a dubious English version. But overall still, Italian prog remains eargasmic musically.

Hey jethro, just curious, why did ProgJect reviewed this instead of Per un Amico?

It's a good question, SirLord. And I haven't seen your question before today. I was looking at your Per un Amico thread when I decided to check out the tracks of Photos of Ghosts via the tracks of Per un Amico. They pretty much contain the same tracks, except this actual album is in English as you know. I think the only track that comes from Storia di un Minuto is Celebration (E'Festa).

Now why I've chosen this album instead of Per Un Amico is mainly because I have a physical copy of Photos of Ghosts, and so it gets a sentimental value. Also, I find the English versions more refined, more polished and more punchy than most of the original Italian versions. And while most of the songs come from Per un Amico, I tend to consider Photos of Ghosts like pretty much a remastered Per un Amico.

Edit; And as for my rating here, I might bump it up to a 4.5/5. What happened is that I gave to both Per un Amico and to Storia di un Minuto a 4 before this review came out. So the actual 4 on here is not logical anymore to my eyes. However, I need to listen to it again before bumping it up.

Mmm yeah, it makes sense then I believe

But the vocals in here won't really do it for me, I think they don't fit the instrumentation, you can clearly tell they weren't supposed to be like that in the first place, specially in Appena un Po (River of Life in this case) the vocals are totally out of rhythm with the instrumentation imo

I never really noticed what you're saying to me. River of Life is just perfect to me and more powerful than the original (to make it sure, I'm gonna listen to both versions). And I dig the explosion which serves as an ending. And I feel the bass, the mellotron and all the keys are more evident in the English version. The only weak point I see is the so-so English singing at some places. I give you that. It shows that both Di Cioccio and Mussida are not particularly English speakers.

Also I added an edition to my last comment, if you want to take a look.
