It's not an album, it's an EP ain't it. The other songs are live covers.

5/5. Awsome work from DT here, not there best song IMO but definatly one of them.

oh yeah, the song is about the entire life-cycle
thats what mike says on his website www.mikeportnoy.com
i think my favorite part is the very end
I sit down with my son
Sad to see the crimson sunset
(gather ye rosebuds while ye may)
Many years have come and gone
Lived my life but now must move on
(gather ye rosebuds while ye may)
those last few lines, unreal good
the gather ye rosebuds part is from a famous poem by Robert Herrick, fyi

I hate this EP. It's given me one of the worst problems to ever face in my life...

I can't decide if Octavarium is my favorate song or A Change Of Seasons!!!!

Help!!

The rest of the EP is brilliant but The Stranger is quite boring I must admit. I don't even like Elton John yet I love FFAF - LLB! I guess anything Dream Theater do is sheer brilliance.

...mabye they are on finger steroids...

Good review, I want to get into Dream Theater...

Any suggestions or starting places for someone who wants to get into the band?
The other three members are also extremely competent
extremely competant is an understatement in my opinion. both JM and JR are incredible musicians and have a unique sense of creativeness and ability that is far more than competent.

but good review - the title track owns. This Message Edited On 08.22.06

Agreeing with Knifeboy, A Change of Seasons is a spectacular track, but the rest don't measure up to it.

ACOS is incredible, but I always end up comparing it to Art Of Life (which is better), and that's annoying.

I prefer the track "Octavarium" just a little bit more than "ACoS." And i think the only reason why is because of the sheer brilliance and epicness of the ending of the song. I fucking explode with goosebumps as the guitar solo comes to an end and Rudess plays that beutiful melody on the keyboard as a whole orchestra, and the last note is just held....maybe the best moment in musical history...at least of this century.

That sounded really fanboyish didnt it? ?Both are among the best osngs ever written though, but I prefer "Home" and "MEtropolis" to both tracks.

acos is a really good song but I don't care for the tacky live covers. dream theater should be original. not a cover band.

A Change of Seasons (the song) is absolutely amazing, not the greatest Dream Theater song of all time as many claim it is imo though...one of them, for sure. =P

The covers are kinda boring to me...but The Big Medley was awesome.

So, 3.5 for me. I liked your review though.

I believe in the Dream theater biography, it is said that A Change of Seasons is about The importance of Carpe Deim and the death of MP's mother. A Change of Seasons is such an amazing track...Especially the part at 15:12. "I'm sick of all you hypocrites...".That part in particular is so incredibly emotional.

Though in all honesty, I've never listened to any of the covers on here. When I listen to this., I only listen to the title track.
