Jared, its funny you mention the stuff about Thom being a soothsayer. You should read Chuck Klosterman's essay on how Thom predicted 9/11 on Kid A.

Academy, i know you're the big Radiohead hater around here and you like to remind us (which I have no problem with). But serious question, have you actually listened to all their stuff? I mean it's so varied that it's hard to believe you don't like any of it. Something like Myxamatosis or Wolf at the Door might be more for you.

lol@everytheacademyopinion
statement he quoted is flawed though
our generation is a mish-mash of multicultural diversity and opinionated buttfuckery where a single album could not possibly rise to mean anything overarching and profoundly significant to anything other than middle class white music listeners.
album is fine and certainly influential, but I don't buy its significance in terms of what it meant to an entire generation upon its arrival like it was the second coming of Christ or something. this review has nothing on that Kid A review on Pitchfork for pretentiousness though

hail to the thief is apparently their best album but that's not saying much

@yots everything in their catalog no, but everything ive rated (except pablo honey), yes.
in rainbows was the only one i ever listened to with an agenda, though. like i knew i was going to hate it but the people i was with were so amped for its release it was like trolling in real life.
everything else was with an open mind... hail to the theif is most tolerable

This review is fucking awful. Musicians aren't revolutionaries, and it doesn't require trust of any kind to enjoy new music. The entire thing is full of glaring assumptions about other people; how do you know what other people's hopes entail? Are all fans of Radiohead part of some collective consciousness? And what about the people whose subjective view of the album is that it is shit, or dare I say it, just an album; are they excluded from the generation flying under its banner? The cod philosophy thrown around on this site is fucking ridiculous, and treats music like its sacred.
