no i didn't jump on him lol. he and i have actually been getting along pretty well. i'm sure he

didn't think i was attacking him, and i wasn't even talking directly to him, but instead in general to

the people talking about ratings. i just honestly don't think they're a very big deal, and that

they're taken too seriously here (and probably everywhere), that's just how i feel.



i really don't think my comment was such a "crazy tangent"--it was addressing the issue at hand, the

ratings. maybe the language was aggressive, but i didn't think so. sorry.

I agree the rating system is flawed to a certain degree but what rating system isn't for things like this. Also the reason I didn't really go in depth about my rating is because Mecca did a great job with being really in depth with his review and I thought it'd be repetitive if I did basically the same thing with a similar rating. My review was just meant to be short version of my opinion with some analysis of the highlights that I felt wouldn't be fully expressed in a sound off.

I still think there is a big difference between 4.5 and 5, since 5 is the highest rating you can give something, it kind of implies that there's not a lot on the album that could be improved upon. Which I don't think is the case here. But I do respect that 5 can mean different things for different people.

it's rendered automatically useless cz it's assigning quantitative values to opinions, it is a huge

lapse in logic. it assumes objectivity where there is none. if everyone everywhere

had innately the same ideas as to what each rating really meant, then yeah there would be no

problem, but as it stands we all have different archetypes of the 5 or classic album. so yeah,

objectively and statistically useless.



case in point: my opinion of a 5 and of a classic and yours. i don't see "classic" as being defined

temporally, but you do, so we and the rating system are at irreparable odds.



here's ONE definition of classic--"authoritative and perfect as a standard of its kind." so really,

it's completely plausible someone here gives an album a 5 after only a few listens (which not even i

did).
