The cursing feels so out of place on that song.

False. It has their same signature sound and it has a lot of predictable song structures (especially the singles).

Sheeple nailed it, I find this to be a rather overall mellow record which kinda disappointed me; Antics is my favorite and imo their most upbeat i.e. Slow Hands.

I don't think Sheeple said it was a mellow record, although that is of course true. What he said was that it had predictable song structures, something that I can't really agree with. Did you expect Always Malaise to end like that? Or pretty much how all of The Undoing unfolds? If anything, it seems that occasionally Interpol strays too much from song structure and doesn't find something compelling enough to replace it (the low points I mentioned).

I think he means in general.

Correct.
Always Malaise was pretty structured as well, not very memorable.
Come on, let's be honest here, in 10-20 years, people are going to remember this band for their songs off the first two solid albums and not singles like “Barricade”.

Safe Without irritates me alone, but in the course of the album is bearable. The first half of the album is stronger than the second by some margin, being a big Interpol fan though i'm still going to give this even more time to grow. Nice review although I disagree about the negativity you give to OLTA, I think it's better than Antics.
Although I like this album, I can't help but worry about their next record, and their future releases, perhaps just a bad fanboy feeling.

Fuck Pitchfork
But still, production kinda sucks on this. It seems to have been going downhill ever since their debut.

true but debut was a classic so..

I still say their debut and Antics are pretty much perfect
