Great review.
I like alcohol also.
My buddy loves these guys so maybe I'll give them a go, would this be a good starting point Hans?

Yeah Blindsided everything else they did sucked, because their chief songwriter got kicked out of the band right after this was released and then died.

this is certainly the review of an educated professional, but its a bit contrived and you leave out the fact that Hopkins didn't even write songs like "Mrs. Rita". And if you're going to go on and on about Doug and his drinking, you should at least mention "Pieces of the Night", a drinking song he DID write.

So underrated, one of the best of 90s alt rock. Doug Hopkins was an incredibly talented songwriter and it's tragic that he wound up taking his own life, doubly so that he did it right as this record and the band were blowing up, ensuring him to unfairly be only a footnote in the long list of talented musicians who died too young. They were never the same after he died, never as good, never as deep, never as melodic and bittersweet. "Hey Jealousy" and "Found Out About You" are two of the best singles of the 90s and sound like the alt rock scene had a baby with 60s jangle pop.

Needs more love.

Alison Road just hit on my Alt. playlist. Album is quintessential 90's listening.

Hopkins' lyrics are important to the album's big hits, but the guitar/bass line in "29" is just heartbreaking.

R.E.M. + major keys = Gin Blossoms.
