This album has some great songs, and a few songs that are just lackluster. Most of the songs can stand on their own amazingly, although some just arent quite amazing. They lose alot of intensity at certain points, and once they regain it, just dont have enough to get it back. Some songs on here are absolutely classics for the genre. The King is Dead, Congratulations, The Kids Can Eat a Bag of Dicks, and Cancer Dream are simply classics though.

Right on, you have a point. I just love how In-Your-Face they are, but still remain undeniably and shamelessy catchy.

Upon listening to Mute Print lately, I do believe that that album might be better. This disc is more subtle, I think.

And upon looking at it. This is a 4.5, not a 5.

I'll change that if I ever get around redoing this review, because I really should.

I just got this the other day and I have to say I'm loving it. They got some horrible song titles though (i.e. "The Kids Can Eat a Bag of Dicks", though the phrase "Eat a Bag of Dicks" is pretty killer in itself- it just doens't suit the song.)

I hate you. That's the best song name ever, and it works for any song whatsoever. Bach's "The Kids Can Eat A Bag Of Dicks?" Works for me.This Message Edited On 02.06.07

Nah dude, Mute Print is wickedly linear. The only sort of experimentation that one does is like Anchor End and Kursk. Aside from that, its a fast punk album. Ruiner is that, but so much more. Mute Print is still great though, as is Benefits of Thinking Out Loud

Yeah, thats what I meant actually. Perhaps I should've worded differently. I meant subtle, meaning that not everything jumps out at you in the first couple listens. It takes more time to absorb, as it doesn't just beat you over the head. As for Benefits of the Thinking Out Loud...it's good, but I don't think it comes anywhere near Mute Print or Ruiner.

This is definitely much more polished than Mute Print, but it also brings a lot more raw power that Bill Stevenson could only bring to the table.

and oh the technicality...

*Drools, the new one is going to be insane

Hm, I'm starting to get into this album. Definitely not a 5, but a nice deviation from a lot of the less-than-technical punk I'm used to.

Good review. Great album.

Their influence from Strung Out in regards to the layered guitar, and technical riffs is pretty obvious but S.O. is sick so whatever.

It's true, the album is amazing. This band is just so fucking wicked.

One of the mods should really switch the primary review over to John's. Even if he doesn't like it nearly as much as he should. And better yet, Fat Pete or Strizz should review this.

i still can't decide which i like best out of AWS albums. atm Career Suicide tops it. to be fair, you can chart the progress from The Benefits of Thinking Out Loud to CS in that they get more progressive/technical and less emotive as time goes on. if their next album could combine the amazing technicality of CS with the slightly more emotional lyrics of TBOTOL and the immense song titles of Ruiner, it could actually own the whole population of the earth.

i reckon i'd give this a 5/5 though. the three most recent are all 5/5s for me, and TBOTL and Diver EP are 4.5/5s.

Contemplating giving this a 4.5. These guys are just so fucking solid, they cant make a bad song. Career Suicide is slightly better imo, but only because of The Horse, Get Mad, and We Built This City.

I've really began digging In Vino Veritas II lately, song doesn't get enough appreciation. I actually really like the more emotional, "pop-punk" sound of it. My favorites are probably The King is Dead, Killing it, God Loves a Liar, and Speed of Dark though.

After finishing this album, it makes me wonder why ANYONE would want to give this a low rating.
