and thats a good point the I Love the 70's show makes. Im merely quoting it to show u how u r wrong.

While Mike Dirnt is a decent bassist, he is not the best today.

kripes, it's about talent not about being famous!
Ringo starr is surely one of the most un-talented drummers who are famous. even linkin park's drummer can do better sh*t. And we are talking about talent and dazed and confused is not hard.
and that about ringo star in the beatles makes him good... NOPE, wrong, that makes him famous for something he don't deserves (just as dave grohl) by the way, don't say that i have no clue about what im saying, because im a really fanatic drummer (a bit too fanatic, )This Message Edited On 10.01.05

I didn't say anything about Ringo being famous, he is a good drummer and what is "being hard" have to do with being a good drummer, which he is.
| | | Album Rating: 3.0
Kripes i'm not saying that he is famous, i'm just saying that the beatles are famous so he is famous too. Ringo is not good, that's just fanboy sh*t, just tell me some songs where he does his best things, and if your right, i will apologize! :D
| | | I think Ringo's kind of underrated actually...he's not a great drummer, but his style of playing on songs like A Day In The Life takes talent. But yeah, he's nothing special really. Same with Tre Cool as well in my opinion.
hey turdopholis, if you think john bonham or dave grohl or nicko mcbrain are gods you surely never heard of danny carey, joey jordison or mike portnoy.
and if you think john bonham is that good, in which song does he show his talent I don't know of (and don't say moby dick because that song is f*cking easy)
I think that Bonham absolutely blows Jordison away, no questions asked. His stamina was immense, and if you listen to live recordings of Zeppelin, you really see how good he was, which you don't get in the studio.
As for this album, it's OK. Not particularly good, even though I don't like Green Day that much. Good review.
| | |
^^ Are you kidding me? Mike Dirnt is the best bassist in punk today.
Matt Freeman, Paul Simonon, JJ Burnel, Juan Alderete, Tim Commerford, David J., Tina Weymoth, and Jerry Casale are all much better than Dirnt.
Mike's lines are just melody-mimicking and root-based, and the previously stated bassists write much more entertaining basslines. I'm not arguing, it's just a fact. I was just stating my opinion of Green Day and backing it up with facts.
You're review was detailed, but I have too big a disliking of Green Day.
To wikuk: Please stop posting. If you'd ever heard 'Achilles Last Stand' or 'Dazed and Confused' I think your opinion might change :thumb:

hey, i've heard dazed and confused and don't tell me it's hard, i'm hearing it NOW (just downloaded) and i have a tab of the drumming and it is hard (oke) but not as hard as jordison or danny carey plays things. Download Ticks And Leeches from Tool, that's real drumming!:D
| | | Okay, will do, but in return, i ask you to download 'Fire' by Jimi Hendrix. And then ask yourself if you or any other drummers you personally know could've thought of that beat.
Mitch Mitchell is probably the best rock drummer, IMO.

mithc mitchell is not the best rock drummer, he is good but no-one (and i'll reapeat) NO-ONE can ever do the things Danny Carey can do (from Tool (ticks and leeches)).
If ticks & leeches cannot convince you, then download:
-Forty-six and 2 (especially the drum solo at 4:30)
-The patient (much technic, pretty hard to hear)
-Lateralus (using weird mesures, 9/8, 8/8, 7/8 5/4)
-Parabola (really hard rock beat followed by sick tom-drumming and at the end technic sh*t)
-Jimmy (another sick technic song)

and the one who said - a day in the live - from the beatles is a great drumming song is sick in it's head. and i mean REALLY SICK!!! that beatle song is incredibley (sorry mispelled) easy and every drummer i know (from bands) is better. Don't ever say Ringo is a good drummer, that's about the biggest lie ever!
| | | @Entwhistle, you're being a bit biased aren't you. Mike Dirnt is very talented, listen to stuart and the ave and such, he knows how to play. Only 'cause you don't like the music doesn't make him bad, same goes for tre cool he is a good drummer, he uses good fills ... And it fits the music perfectly
About the album, I prefer Dookie, Nimrod and AI allthough Minority is great Very good review

Entwistle you said "Mitch Mitchell is probably the best rock drummer". i've heard the song Fire but it's surely not the best rock drummer, john bonham is much better and keith moon too and of course danny carey from tool but some consider it metal and others rock.
| | | Phil Collins once described Starr as being "vastly underrated. The drum fills on the song 'A Day in the Life' are very complex things. You could take a great drummer today and say, 'I want it like that.' They wouldn't know what to do." Collins's early work with Genesis showed him to be a great drummer, so it's not exactly an odd opinion. As I said, Starr isn't a great drummer, but he's not as bad as you're making him out to be. As for Danny Carey, he isn't the best drummer out there today. He's very good, don't get me wrong, but players like Virgil Donati and Vinnie Colaiuta absolutely own him.
Dirnt's an OK bassist as well. Kind of like Tre Cool, he's not going to reinvent his instrument, but he's alright at it.

Virgil Donati and Vinnie Colaiuta, which bands are they from?
and what are their specialities, speed or technique

And about the good bassists, you forgot Justin chancellor from Tool, he can do sick stuff (songs: Schism, forty-six and two, H)

Oh my god I went to a Who's-the-best-musician argument and a review broke out!

Oh my god I went to a Who's-the-best-musician argument and a review broke out!
Hey, it happens. :p I'm letting it carry on since it started off on Green Day discussion and we're still discussing music in a decent way. But yeah, comments on the review and the album are still cool.
Virgil Donati and Vinnie Colaiuta, which bands are they from?
and what are their specialities, speed or technique
In both cases, they're both outstanding in both the areas you mentioned. Donati's played with Steve Vai and is in his own fusion band, Planet X. Vinnie Colaiuta is someone I've only really heard solo clips from, although he's worked with Sting, interestingly enough. Seriously, find some mp3s of him online and you'll be amazed.
